GUYS! My baby turned one! How in the world did that happen!?? First Birthday parties are kind of a big deal at my house 🙂 I know everyone says “They’re too young, they won’t remember” but for me it is a great excuse to throw a fun party and celebrate with family and friends. 🙂
I tried to not go completely over the top….. we had Sloan’s party at our house in the backyard and even though it rained for just a minute we still had a great time!
I know evites are the big thing right now, but I guess I’m old fashioned because I still love to do a paper invite! I ordered this digital invite from an etsy shop and had them printed at Fedex. And then because I can’t leave things alone I spruced up the invitation envelopes to match the theme 🙂
I made her tassel high chair banner and you can find the tutorial HERE. PS how cute is that little baby foot poking through the ‘O’? I ordered a plain white smash cake from Sam’ s Club and then added the sprinkles around the top and bottom edge. It turned out adorable and was super inexpensive. I also DIYed a #1 glitter candle for the topper, I’ll share that later. 🙂
Since I did the cooking I tried to keep it really easy. We had a taco bar! Who doesn’t love tacos?! I made croc pot chicken taco meat, ground beef, queso, guacamole, beans, all sorts of taco toppings, and then had different tortillas and even taco cups for guests to assemble their tacos. There were also churro bites and cupcakes for dessert. 🙂 Churro bites tutorial can be found HERE. My mother-in-law had these amazing serapes that we used for table cloths.
The cupcakes I also ordered from Sam’s Club (they were delicious!) and then I made super fun cactus and piñata toppers. Tutorial for the toppers can be found HERE. My mother-in-law had the amazing idea to stack terra-cotta pots and planter bases (I don’t know if that’s what those are called haha) to create a cupcake stand!
We set up a drink station on the deck 🙂 We had 2 big party splurges: 1: we rented a giant, I think it was 15ft tall, inflatable water slide from a bounce house company (we had a wide age range of kiddos and it is a million degrees in Texas so this was the perfect party activity. I think the adults loved it more than the kids:) 2: We rented a margarita machine. You can’t have a Fiesta without a margarita right?!
I set up a Photo Booth area that also served as a backdrop for the cake smash pictures. This may have been my favorite thing at the party. I didn’t want to take it down after! First I hung up two orange plastic table cloths for a good solid background. Next I added a few streamers on top of that and finally this amazing paper flower arch around the edge. The flowers came attached to strips of clear plastic so all I had to do was fluff them and then hang the 3 strips. (Big shout out to my sister who helped fluff all those flowers 🙂
Photobooths are always a big hit!
For favors each kiddo got a miniature piñata (imagine a piñata rubber ducky), some candy and a set of glitter maracas.
