I’m calling this my Halloween chic manicure hahaha 🙂 I have really been wanting to attempt a water splatter manicure (sounds fancy huh) and it ended up being the coolest look for Halloween.
The how to for this manicure is really similar to water marbling manicure. It definitely takes a little bit longer than just painting your nails the old fashioned way but once you get started its not so bad and it’s totally worth it.
Whatcha Need:
- Nail polish (base coat color, splatter color, top coat, accent nail color-optional)
- small cup or dish
- toothpicks
- perfume
- paper towels
- room temp water
- scotch tape or a latex peel off cuticle protector (I really need to get some of this)
- nail polish remover
The How To:
Paint your nails with your base coat color and let them dry completely. I used a pale pink that almost matched my natural nail color. Using scotch tape or the latex cuticle protector, tape off around the nail. Putting tape on either side of your nail bed and along the bottom edge of your nail. This step is optional but it definitely makes cleanup easier 😉
Fill your cup with room temperature water. Not sure why but room temp water works best.
Drop a few drops of your splatter color polish I used black) onto the surface of the water. You want to see it start to spread slightly and form a circle on the water surface. I did about 5-6 drops of polish.
Spray your polish circle with the perfume until you like the patterns and shapes that you see.
Find a spot that has a design you like and dunk your nail into the water: You want to make sure your fingernail is facing down and goes in parallel to the water’s surface so that the design will stick to your nail.
While your nail is in the water, straighten your finger. Keeping your fingernail under the water’s surface take a toothpick and swirl it around in the water to remove all the leftover polish and wipe on paper towel. Now pull your finger straight out of the water. Make sure you “clean” the water after each nail
Repeat for each nail and let polish dry completely. Once it’s dry peel off tape or cuticle protector and use nail polsh remover and Q-tips to clean up around each nail.
I added an orange accent nail to make my manicure look a bit more Halloweeny 🙂
Funny story: Hayes used all of our scotch tape for some creation he was working on so I did the manicure with nothing around my nails and figured I would just do more work with the polish remover. Well when I went to go get said nail polish remover to clean up after doing my first hand I realized we were out!!! Hahaha So I had to make a quick trip to the store with my hand looking like this 🙂 oops
