I am obsessed with ALL things watercolor at the moment! So when I first saw the idea for a watercolor manicure I knew I had to give it a go! And I love, love, love the way they turned out!
- White nail polish
- Clear top coat
- Watercolor paint (nothing fancy, these are from IKEA)
- A nail brush or a tiny tipped paint brush
- Paper towel
First things first, give your nails a good solid base coat of white polish. Let that base coat dry completely.
Now for the fun part! Using your watercolor palette and your teeny, tiny brush, paint whatever design you want. You are going to use the watercolors just like you would if you were painting on paper.
I did find when the brush was less wet the colors were more vibrant and a little easier to control on the nail. But it is up to you and what look you like. Experiment some until you get exactly what you are looking for. The awesome thing is you can paint a nail with the watercolors and if you decide you don’t like it you can use a wet paper towel to wipe off the design and do it again! 🙂
And don’t worry about getting the watercolor on your finger around the nail. After you apply the top coat, and it is dry, you can just wash your hands and any excess paint just washes right off!
Once you have the look you like, let the watercolor dry all the way! Super important! If it’s not totally dry and you try to paint your top coat, your entire design will get wiped away.
Once the paint is completely dry, apply your top coat. Two important things:
- apply top coat gently so you don’t smudge your hard work 🙂
- Make sure you cover the design completely with top coat. Otherwise, as soon as you get your hands wet any uncovered part will just wash away.
Once your top coat is dry you are good to go! Here is the link to just1nail’s video that inspired this awesome manicure 🙂
