You know those crafts that you get an idea for and you think, “BEST craft idea EVER! That will be super cute and take 5 minutes!” And then said craft really doesn’t live up to either of those things? Hahaa well that was Mr. Firework wreath! I had this amazing vision in my head of how this was going to turn out AND it would be the quickest craft in history and while it didn’t exactly go as planned he’s growing on me 🙂
This whole project inspiration started with these 4th of July “firework sprig” decorations (not really sure what to call these things) I spotted at Hobby Lobby one day. I think they are meant to be used in your yard or maybe a centerpiece…. not sure but I loved them. So I grabbed 5 of the sprigs (which were on sale of course), a 14″ foam wreath, and some red ribbon.
I used a dot of hot glue to hold down the beginning of the ribbon and wrapped the entire wreath form so that no green was showing through. For my 14″ wreath I used the entire 3 yard spool of ribbon. I used another dot of hot glue to secure the tail end of the ribbon.
I used some wire cutters to cut off the extra “stem” of my firework sprig (Do you like my technical terms here? haha).
Holding down one end of the spring against the wreath, I wrapped the spring around the wreath form and repeated with the remaining sprigs.
ummm……nope!
Well in my original plan this would be where the craft ended. Wham bam thank you ma’m a firework wreath! Well, not so much! I looked more like a firework hairball! Not exactly the look I was going for :/
Enter in a few red pipe cleaners. I used the pipe cleaners to pull some of the strands up from the middle and sort of redirect them toward the outside of the wreath. The picture helps explain that more 😉 It’s like my messy bun on a bad hair day, sometimes my little flyaways need a little work before I achieve the perfect messy look 🙂
After a little reworking….
It’s still not exactly what I originally pictured, maybe a little more wild and wooly, but I think I like ’em! It’s definitely festive!!!
